Atelier Kempe Thill won the invited competition for the development of the dry docks in Antwerp, Belgium, and the project is in planning. Situated on Droogdokken Island, the site will be transformed into a green public park and function as a link between the inner city and the harbor on the river Scheldt. The impressive industrial site with its nine dry docks and two important historical workshop buildings for heavy machinery will be transformed into a new public venue relating to various maritime activities. A new Antwerp harbor visitors’ center will be built there. The existing building will host storage for a maritime collection, offices for the harbor, and spaces for several youth organizations and restaurants.
