The Parktheater is a project for a small multifunctional cultural center in the medieval city center of Bree in Limburg, Belgium. The project proposed by Atelier Kempe Thill during the invited competition intended to realize the new theater partly underground in order to maintain big parts of the historic monastery garden that is one of the few parks in the center of the town. By doing so, the relatively large volume of the new venue could be carefully integrated into the historic townscape, and it would gain an interesting spatial relationship with its direct surroundings.
