0155 Louise Marie Towers, Antwerp, BE
Close to the historic park Domein Hertoghe in Antwerp, Belgium, a new apartment complex of 220 dwellings will be realized. The design proposed by Atelier Kempe Thill in the invited competition stipulated the building of two identical towers, connected by an underground parking garage and embedded into a gently molded landscape.
The concrete frame construction in the proposal provides high flexibility, allowing a great variety of different dwelling types. The apartments are characterized by generous panoramic windows that permit a wide view of the city. Wintergardens serve as all-year outside spaces and as a buffer against noise from the nearby ring highway. Fairfaced concrete façade elements, along with anodized windows and glass, create a natural atmosphere. An important part of the proposal is the design of the exterior: by creating a hilly landscape with dense vegetation, the buildings are integrated into the surroundings, and the transition toward public space is softened.
