0106 Energyville KU Leuven, Genk, BE

The new smart grid research laboratory and education building for the Catholic University of Leuven at the campus in the Waterschei district of Genk, Belgium, was set up as a generous and very flexible structure based on C2C principles. At the moment, Energyville is one of Flanders’ most sustainable buildings in terms of energy use, CO2 reduction, and adaptability. The building is the first educational and research facility in Belgium to obtain the BREEAM certificate “Outstanding.” Atelier Kempe Thill received the commission for this project after taking first prize in the invited competition.
