The housing project on the Kempkensberg in Groningen, Netherlands, for which Atelier Kempe Thill participated in a study commission, is an exercise in high-density, low-rise housing. The project for 180 individual homes is organized as a double housing block and reaches a density of about 70 houses per hectare. The access is placed in between the blocks and functions as a greenhouse and climate buffer. In the middle of the block is a big water garden serving as an oasis of quietness within the city.
