The representative open staircase of the town hall in Alblasserdam, Netherlands, had to be remodeled due to fire security regulations. The design by Atelier Kempe Thill sought to minimize the actual building activity for this adjustment. By using a fireproof full-glass construction without additional framework, a very open and light stairwell was created. This stairwell harmonizes with the existing staircase in an elegant way.
