The most important aspects of a museum are light and space, with neutral, diffuse daylight illuminating adequately sized exhibitions rooms. Atelier Kempe Thill’s design for the Nam June Paik Museum in South Korea is in fact a large exhibition hall enclosed by translucent walls and ceilings. In the proposal, the 120-meter-long museum has precast double polycarbonate walls that offer perfect light and climate conditions inside. The museum runs parallel with the slope, creating a depot underneath the main exhibition hall. The form of the hall is not related to traditional museum buildings but instead seeks to be a “captured landscape” covered by a “sky of dimmed light.”
