0195 Herkenrode site, Hasselt, BE
The Herkenrode site is located in the historic centre of the city of Hasselt. The former military site later served as a zone for government functions of the federal government and now will be reconverted into a lively and sustainable quarter. With great respect to the historical context, the team of Abscis Architects, Atelier Kempe Thill and UAU collectiv is planning a diverse and sustainable housing project that can connect a diverse group of people to the town of Hasselt.
Within the partly renewed edge buildings of the site, the courtyard is a peaceful, green oasis where residents and visitors can relax. The intricate network of small streets and allies through the historic centre is in a subtle way continued throughout the block. Atelier Kempe Thill introduces a new urban villa into the heart of the development.
