In 2010, Atelier Kempe Thill won the invited international competition by the Flemish bouwmeester for the transformation of the former nineteenth-century De Harmonie concert hall and its park in Antwerp, Belgium. All façades and the structure of this classicist building have been restored to their old glory. Missing historical parts were replaced by new elements in a contemporary interpretation. Various technical improvements were realized to adapt the building to new low-energy, climate, and acoustic standards. The redesign of the surrounding historic park and the reconstruction of a fountain by Henry van de Velde were also part of the project. The transformed building hosts the local city authority, a restaurant, and a venue suitable for different kind of events.
