0148 Monastery village, Kappel am Albis, CH
Atelier Kempe Thill is working in collaboration with BBZ landscape architects on the planning phase of the won invited international competition for the revitalization of the 12th century Kappel Monastery – a protected monumental village that today serves as a seminar hotel and educational centre of the protestant church of Zürich.
During past centuries the monastery was altered, various additions where made. The agricultural part of the monastery was extended and modernized. The original silhouette was partly lost. Huge new roofs and vertical silos started to bother the image of the monastery – a postcard-like setting in the alpine upland.
Due to these reasons a new master plan will be step by step implemented including the reconstruction of the historic landscape design and the realization of a series of new – mainly agricultural – buildings.
